Song Writing Lessons for Beginners

Learn to understand and write your own music in popular styles by learning how songs are created using a variety of techniques.

Topics to be taught include:

• Modes and scales - how to use them
• Song structure
• Writing effectively and imaginatively for piano
• Keys and how to use/combine them
• Developing your own creative imagination
• How to transcribe music
• Training the aural imaginationI
• Improvisation

Depending on the students interests, we try to guide the student towards creating a number of original compositions and inspire them to become independent creators!

We do this with other instrumentalists (not just piano) and would probably need them to be about grade 4-5 sight reading level, ideally.
